3. Notes

A. If a student has completed the equivalent of two introductory language courses, they can fulfill the language requirement by (i) enrolling in either Portuguese or Spanish courses (the language they do not know), and/or (ii) taking a 200+level language course in the language they know, and/or (iii) replacing the language requirement with courses from SLAS_Options. 

B. To register in SPAN 111/3.0 students must sign a form in the Departmental Office officially declaring that they have no knowledge of Spanish. A language placement test may apply.

C. Some courses in SLAS_Options may or may not cover topics directly involving Spanish and Latin American Studies, although students may approach instructors to see if assignments or papers could be written from this perspective.

D. Students must refer to the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures to find a suitable substitution(s) if necessary.

E. Courses with significant Latin American content may be approved for inclusion in this degree program with permission of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. Including topic courses such as LLCU 205/3.0, LLCU 295/3.0, and/or LLCU 395/3.0 if the topic title offered includes content related to Latin America. 

F. A maximum of 6.00 units from courses offered by other Faculties and Schools may be counted toward the program and/or Plan requirements. This includes courses in BMED, COMM, GLPH, HSCI, LAW, NURS, and courses offered by Smith Engineering.
