Academic Calendar 2024-2025

Methods of Selection

Step 1 : Initial Assessment

Each year the Admissions Committee establishes the minimum acceptable GPA score, MCAT score, and Casper score for the admissions cycle. At Queen’s, we review the cumulative GPA.

If the applicant meets the minimum established score set for the admissions cycle with a complete application, then they progress to Step 2. If they are below the minimum, they do not progress in the process.

Step 2 : File Review

There are additional items required for the Queen’s Lakeridge Health MD Family Medicine Program. These items are:

  • Responses to a series of short answer questions in the application.
  • A highlighted selection of autobiographical sketch activities.
  • 2 additional confidential assessment letters in addition to the 3 references that are required for the MD application.

Applicants that meet the admission criteria, submit all MD application components and the additional submissions will have their file reviewed and evaluated.

Step 3 : Interview(s)

Based on the review of applicants, GPA, MCAT, Casper, and supplemental documents submitted, a rank order list will be generated. Applicants will be invited to participate in interviews that will evaluate their suitability for a career in medicine and more specifically in Family Medicine.

If an applicant declines an interview or does not respond to an interview invitation, the next applicant on the rank order list will be sent an interview invitation.

The Queen’s-Lakeridge Health MD Family Medicine Program uses a combined MMI and Panel interview in the assessment of candidates suitability for the MD program and for family medicine.

Both the MMI and Panel interviews will be conducted virtually.

Step 4 : Decision

Successful applicants are reviewed and ranked by the Admissions Committee and offers are made based on a ranked list. Offers will be sent by Ontario medical schools based on the date established by OMSAS. Two weeks after the first round of offers, additional offers will be sent on a rolling basis until the class has been filled. Once the class is complete all waitlisted applicants will be notified via email that offers are no longer being made.
