3.1 Admission Requirements
3.1.1 Current Queen's Students
Current Queen’s students must be registered as undergraduate students in a program other than the Bachelor of Commerce. Students must have completed at least 18.0 graded units at Queen’s and have a minimum 2.60 cumulative GPA to be considered for admission. Transfer credit earned from Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or CEGEP courses will not be counted toward the 18.0 units required for admission.
Students who do not meet the above 2.60 GPA requirement on 18.0 units may apply under the Interest Category (see section 3.1.4). In the Interest Category, students will need a minimum C‐ grade in at least two CIB core courses to be considered for admission to the Certificate.
Current Queen’s undergraduate students who have completed courses at Queen’s required for the Certificate, at the 200-level, must have achieved at least a C- in those courses to be considered for admission. For more information on 200-level and 600-level courses see Course Registration.
Current Queen’s students are strongly encouraged to complete two courses required for the Certificate at the 200-level before enrolling. Before enrolling in the Certificate, courses may be repeated until a grade of at least C- is achieved. Once enrolled in the Certificate, students have limited opportunities to repeat courses and are subject to the regulations to remain in Good Academic Standing (for more information see 5 Academic Regulations and Standing and 4.4.3 Retaking Courses).
No more than 6.0 units completed at the 200-level may be applied toward the Certificate.
Up to 6.0 units previously completed as electives toward a Queen’s Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum C‐ grade, may be used as credit toward the Certificate. Previously completed Certificate courses with a grade less than a C‐, and Certificate courses in excess of the 6.0 unit maximum, will be used in the calculation of the cumulative GPA for admission, but cannot be used as credit toward the Certificate and must be repeated at the 600‐level at the student’s expense. Students must achieve the minimum grade of C‐ in the 600‐level course. Students must complete all remaining courses at the 600‐level.
Courses equivalent to those required for the Certificate previously completed at other universities will be included in the calculation of the cumulative GPA for admission, but no minimum grade is required. Previously completed courses, regardless of the grade earned, cannot be counted toward the Certificate. Once enrolled, students must complete all courses at the 600‐level.
Meeting the minimum requirements is not a guarantee of admission. Admission to the program is subject to space availability.
3.1.2 Queen's Graduates
Queen’s Graduates must have completed an undergraduate degree from Queen’s University. Applicants are considered Queen’s graduates after the first undergraduate degree is conferred. Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree at Queen’s must have a minimum 2.60 cumulative GPA to be considered for admission.
Queen’s graduates who do not meet the above 2.60 GPA requirement may apply under the Interest Category (see section 3.1.4). Queen’s graduates who have completed courses at Queen’s required for the Certificate, at the 200‐level, must have achieved at least a C‐ in those courses to be considered for admission. For more information on 200‐level and 600‐level courses see 4 Course Registration.

Students must complete all remaining courses at the 600‐level.

Courses equivalent to those required for the Certificate previously completed in college will be included in the calculation of the cumulative GPA for admission, but no minimum grade is required. Previously completed courses, regardless of the grade earned, cannot be counted toward the Certificate. Once enrolled, students from a recognized community college must complete all CIB courses at the 600‐level.
Students who are active diploma students at a college are encouraged to consult with their home institution, and to obtain a Letter of Permission, before beginning the Certificate.
Meeting the minimum requirements is not a guarantee of admission. Admission to the program is subject to space availability.
3.1.4 Interest Students (Online Non-Degree)
This pathway is intended for those who want to take one or two courses for interest purposes or who do not meet the admission requirements for the online non‐degree continuing option.
This is not intended as a pathway to on‐campus studies and students are unable to enroll in courses outside of the Smith School of Business Certificate in Business courses.
Non‐degree interest students do not enroll immediately in the Certificate in Business. They must complete at least two (2) core CIB courses, with a minimum grade of C‐ in each course, prior to applying for admission to the CIB. After completing at least two (2) core courses at the 600 level and providing they achieve the minimum final grade of C‐ in each core course, they may apply as a Certificate in Business student to finish requirements.
Interest students may take any number of CIB elective courses before formal enrollment in the CIB program, however electives will not be included in assessment for admission. Only core courses are included in admission assessment. Upon formal admission, any previously completed electives will be applied toward the CIB program requirements providing the student earned a minimum grade of C‐ in the elective.
3.2 Application Procedure
